Joe developed a blogger promotion as part of the integrated marketing campaign that propelled the Monterey Gourmet Foods re-launch. This campaign connected with the brand's target,the 'sociable home chef' and the bloggers they follow. Program Details
The campaign was effective in driving consumers to the new www.montereygourmetfoods.com website and also attracted additional editorial interest from major market newspapers and other media outlets. The "MF" re-launch campaign also included the company's first-ever online advertising campaign inclusive of: Facebook advertising and retail ads on Foodnetwork.com, Blogher and Adbrite.
Joe developed an e-commerce website for Dr. Smoothie, a Southern California based foodservice manufacturer of smoothie mixes, performance snack bars, cocktail mixers and nutraceutical mix-ins. His efforts at DeVry University also enhanced that university's public image through the launch of social media marketing strategies. A Facebook page hew worked on provided a forum to interact with students and alumni.
For ConAgra Foods, he conceived and project-led the development of an internet/ intranet driven proposal generation system used to manage complicated foodservice bid business. The long term results were top and bottom line sales and profit growth. This same system was later commercialized by the programming staff originally retained for the project. It has become a very successful foodservice selling system and is used industry-wide.×
Pasta: Our work with Monterey Gourmet Foods included the development of a stage gate product innovation process that included the company's first new product development pipeline in over five years. In addition, we developed and fielded an online consumer study to evaluate and rank consumer purchase intent among the carefully screened participants. Produce: In an earlier project, Fresh and Easy and their produce section partner, Wild Rocket Foods, hired us to develop a robust stage gate innovation process and the chain's first complete salad kit category.
Confections: We particpated in an LHF Brands project, the development of a line of licensed gourmet popcorn confections under the licensed brand, Mrs. Fields Gourmet Popcorn. We also worked with LHF in a market development capacity and aided their penetration of the fund raising, conventional grocery, big box retailers, mass merchant, drug store and vending channels.

Cholula Hot Sauce is the #2 brand in the huge retail hot sauce category. When management turned its attention to foodservice restaurant chain penetration, we were commissioned to develop a chain penetration program that included a telemarketing contact to restaurant chain buyers. These buyers were qualified for interest and if results were positive, they were sent a unique sample package. Along with developing the program, we also managed the target list for long-term development until a contract stage was reached. At that point, Cholula's management concluded negotiations and took over account management.

Demitris Bloody Mary mixes are known in the bar and restaurant industry as the premier, all-natural 'Mary Mix'. To help them expand their chain penetration effort, we developed a local hotel, bar and restaurant presentation program for use by Demitris sales force. For this program, we provided a sampling approach, point of sale collateral, trade ad and training on broadline distributor sales.
Results: Penetration of Sysco Corporation and multiple new operator sales.
La Reina Family Brands is one of the early originators of the mass-produced tortilla and also manufactures frozen Mexican entrees. Our in-depth knowledge of the school foodservice industry was instrumental in their penetration of the Southern California school foodservice segment. We focused on providing examples of school bid specifications for tortillas, frozen burritos and taquitos, competitive bid pricing parameters, introductions to key school district foodservice operators and school foodservice food distributors. We provided trade show support and developed a full-line brochure to support the sales effort.

Joe Hines led a successful brand re-launch and drove product demand through increased chain penetration and same store sales by leveraging a national print advertising campaign which included Sunset Magazine, Better Homes & Gardens, Good Housekeeping and other major publications. Results: Improved brand awareness nationally, uniquely positioned Monterey Gourmet Foods target consumers (sociable home chefs) to retail, convinced retail buyers to support the MGF brand due to superior marketing support versus other second-tier brands.For DeVry University:
Joe Hines developed local market print ads to raise awareness for the university's academic programs and public events. Additionally, he managed local market media buys to generated record lead generation. This led to major increases in local market student enrollments.. Results: Improved brand awareness, drove potential students to DVU recruitment events, improved brand consideration for DeVry University compared with other for-profit universities.
Joe also developed DeVry's first-ever national campaign targeting Community College transfer students. Results: Increased community college transfers to DeVry University by raising awareness of DeVry's speed to completion capabilities.For ConAgra Foods:
We developed a re-branding of Monterey Pasta to Monterey Gourmet Foods which resulted in increased product offerings, category expansion and broader account targets.
We spearheaded several consumer research studies for DeVry University which resulted in campaigns like We Major in Careers and Let Nothing Stand In Your Way. These boosted national consideration scores and this ultimately contributed to improved new student recruitment results.
We worked with closely with DeVry University's national marketing team to established branding guidelines and then partnered with local operations teams to implement significant enhancements in on-site branding efforts as consistent with national media campaign.×
DeVry's student population was heavily skewed toward male students despite the fact that college enrollment has skewed female on an ever increasing basis since the mid 1980's. To help DeVry increase their female enrollment figures in Southern California we conceived, planned and executed an event called Generation WE. A free, day-long seminar led by successful and high-profile female managers from a cross-section of industries. The actual event was preceded by three months of advertising in local media, e-blasts, community college newspapers and street-team driven activities. Results: 300 attendees and 60 new student starts with a student life-time value of $1.8Million
In addition, Joe conceived and directed Devry’s first-ever West Coast Street Team comprised of students to manage events with the LA Galaxy, LA Kings, LA Lakers, NASCAR and Live Nation concerts. Results: Thousands of leads generated over two years and an aggressive event calendar of over 150 major events per year. Lead conversion rate: over 15%.
Joe's contributions to the marketing efforts at DeVry University included writing the radio scripts for local market radio spots which were broadcast on leading Southern California stations including KIIS-FM and KPWR-FM. In addition, he managed the local market media buys for the ten campus region. Results: Improved local market awareness and drove prospective students to DVU public events.
Additionally, Joe worked as part of the national brand team to develop new brand positioning and new creative used in national radio network buys. Developed an orientation DVD for use as a recruiting aid by DeVry University admissions advisors which highlighted the relative merits of DeVry's academic programs and graduation to employment success rates. Results: Improved local market conversion rates among DVU's admissions team and contributed to a reversal in the declining enrollment rate within DeVry's Southern California region.
Developed an informercial DVD for this snack and confections manufacturer for use with prospective rack jobbers. This DVD explained the candy jobber industry and convinced potential route owners to start a Todds snack route. Results: Led to an 11% increase in new route openings in Todds distribution network.×

Efi Latief is a native of exotic Indonesia where color, art and great design are a mainstay of the cultural diet. She counts nature, arts, architecture, music and film as her chief inspirations.
